Sickle Cell

According to the National Institute for Care Excellence

Sickle cell disease is estimated to affect 1 in every 2,000 live births in England.

Sickle cell disease occurs predominantly in people of African and African-Caribbean origin, but cases also occur in families originating from the Middle East, parts of India, the eastern Mediterranean, and South and Central America; the common factor to this distribution is a history of malaria or migration from a malarial area.
There are currently around 12,500–15,000 people with sickle cell disease in England alone.

As of September 2023, NHCO will look to organise an awareness and fundraising event on the matter of Sickle Cell anaemia and Thalassemia in partnership with well-experienced specialists in this area. We aim to make this a yearly event.

There are so many talented individuals who we refer to as “Warriors” who suffer from this deadly disease. Our Warriors are community members with great innovative ideas, projects, and creative concepts that find their creativity buried and never come to fruition.

As an organisation, we believe we can garner the community to ensure our warriors receive all the help they deserve through various schemes such as our mentoring programme Engage Your Now.

We aim to work in partnership with organisations

that will give back to the community to assist our Sickle Cell warriors who are talented but fly under the radar.
